A family with a passion for South Asian design wanted their primary suite transformed into an immersive Indian-inspired retreat. Ramsay Nye’s clients said “go wild”, verbatim, during initial discussions about the design direction. To accommodate their exuberant wishes and to work with the spaces’ low ceilings, small rooms and exposed log beams, the design team drew inspiration from iconic Indian architecture, textiles, and craftsmanship. Nearly every element was custom made in collaboration with artisans—from the hand-painted floors and striped walls to the bespoke furniture, built in art display shelving and kumiko style vanity mirror. Rich patterns and colors enhance the cozy spaces, including lampshades made from vintage saris, block print textiles, and traditional chik blinds. This vibrant and intimate home transports one to the rich design history of India.
